With the current situation of our environment, it is not possible that in the future, gasoline-powered cars will be replaced by the eco friendly cars. These days, environment-friendly cars and other vehicles are making up a big part of car sales for large car companies. This article provides the different types of eco friendly cars that are available in the market.
1. Hybrid cars
These cars run using the energy from a battery and a fuel engine. The two energy sources are used alternatively. Hybrid cars are often mistaken to as electric cars. The main disadvantages for this type of cars are its high cost and they accelerate at a slower speed. Unlike gas-powered cars, you cannot achieve a certain speed within a short period when using hybrid cars. This makes the driver feel unsafe while driving because he will not be able to keep pace with the other cars while on the road.
2. Bio diesel cars
These cars use regular diesel engines. Old cars can be converted to biodiesel cars. The use of biodiesel is better for the environment because it is a fuel made from animal fats, vegetable oils and greases and the pollutants it produces are not as toxic as those released by gasoline powered cars. One of the disadvantages of such cars is that they cannot be used in places with low temperatures because biodesel gels when the temperature is cold.
3. Ethanol cars
They work like gasoline cars, but they are using biofuel ethanol instead of oil-based gasolines. Ethanol fuel is made from plants like corn and sugarcane. They are refined into an alcohol and are used as fuel for car engines. Unlike petroleum, ethanol reduces carbon emissions and it is a renewable source. The major disadvantage of it is the need for large areas to be able produce the crops needed to make ethanol.
4. Electric cars
Electric cars are easy to use because electricity is available almost everywhere and you don’t need to put up electricity stations to be able to recharge these cars. They are also easy to assemble and they can save money as they require less maintenance. The inability to travel long distances is the main disadvantage of this type of car. A 6 to 8-hour battery recharge can travel up to 160 kilometers only, which can prove to be too short a distance for many people.
5. Hydrogen powered cars
These cars use hydrogen as their onboard fuel. They are considered eco friendly because hydrogen burns cleanly in the air compared to fossil fuels. It does not produce harmful pollutants as well and it can be renewed. Disadvantages include the high cost of hydrogen and its high flammability properties that put the users in potential risks.
Cars and other vehicles are now becoming an important part of our lives, and they are also the main cause of the pollution in the environment. Environment-friendly cars help in reducing the harmful effects of automobiles because they are using renewable resources, which significantly help in reducing carbon footprint.
